Spring Outfit Part 1: DIY Knockoff Spring Necklace

A few months ago, I received a Mini Boden catalog in the mail, my favorite DIY eye candy! I came across this darling wood bead/fabric necklace. I ripped out the page and stuck it on my fridge for inspiration. My mind started to go crazy with post ideas. I knew Staci’s girls at The Potter's Place would love these and Riley Blake Designs fabric would be a perfect fit. I got in touch with both of them and they loved the idea too.

So the picture below is the one I feel in love with as I flipped through the Mini Boden catalog. I thought it would be fun to do a tutorial inspired by this necklace. DIY allows you make a necklace that matches your dress perfectly and it is fun to create something unique.

With Easter is right around the corner, we thought it would be fun to do a two part blog post. Part 1: Easter Necklace by Erika (www.fizzypops.com) and Part 2: Easter dress and skirt by Staci (www.thepotters-place.com). Best of all, a GIVEAWAY with all of the supplies to make your own necklace (2 lucky winners will be chosen).

Do you want to make one? It is super EASY to make, I promise. I only do easy… ha ha! Plus, once you learn the technique you can change it up, add more or less beads. Do one flower or five flowers. Place the flowers off center. Options are endless. diy-easter-spring-wood-bead-kids-necklace-fizzypops.com

Step by Step Tutorial:

2. Cut out 17 circles.

3 & 4. Place a dot of hot glue in the center of a fabric circle and fold in half.

5 & 6. Place a dot of hot glue in the middle of the half circle and fold again.

7. Repeat this 15 times total.

8. Glue the remaining 2 full circles together.

9. Glue the 1/4 circle onto the full circles, making sure folded ends meet with folded ends and open ends meet with open ends.

10. Add another layer of four 1/4 circles, but off set them a bit. See photo. Then add a third layer. Three layers total (twelve 1/4 circles)

11. Glue the remaining three 1/4 circles together.

12. Insert on top of the three layers to complete the flower. diy-mini-boden-knockoff-fizzypops.com-wooden-bead-necklace-easter13. Tie a single knot with the leather cording, leaving an inch or so.

14. Tie another knot on top of the single knot.

15. Slide a 12mm bead to the end and trim and tuck in the loose end of the leather cording.

16. Tie another double knot on the opposite side of the bead to secure it in place.

17 & 18.Then tie another double know about 6 to 8 inches below the 12mm bead you have secured into place. Then thread six 16mm beads onto the leather cording, and slide them down to this knot.

19 & 20. Tie another double knot to secure the six 16mm beads into place at the loose end.

21. Now grab a fabric flower that you assembled earlier and place a quarter size dab on hot glue on the back of the flower. Slide the flower up next to the 16mm beads. diy-easter-necklace-wood-chunky-beads-fizzypops.com 22. Quickly place a smaller wool felt circle over the leather cording and press the wool securely onto the cording and fabric flower.

23. Repeat the same process with the other two fabric flowers. Then repeat steps 17 to 20 again on the opposite side of the necklace.

24. Now place the two ends of the necklace parallel to one another, but in opposite directions.

25. Grab your extra piece of leather cording and wrap it tightly around the two ends (*see photo)

26 & 27.Now slide the end of the extra piece of cording underneath the wrapped portion of the knot (*see photo). Repeat process for the other end as well.

28. Tie a knot at each end of the portions that were slipped through the wrapped cord.

29. Clip off the excess, leaving just the knots.

30. Now you have created an adjustable sliding knot! Ta da!!!! All done! Plus, once you learn the technique you can change it up, ad more or less beads. Do one flower or five flowers. Place the flowers off center. Options are endless. diy-wood-bead-easter-necklace-mini-boden-knockoff-fizzypops.com.jpg
